Letter From School Leadership
Located in Frederick, Maryland, St. John Regional Catholic School is a proud member of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and has been serving the Catholic community for over 194 years. With a deep-rooted history and strong traditions, we are honored to provide a faith-based education to students from eight Frederick County parishes, the Catholic community of Fort Detrick, and families from Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Accredited by Cognia, our school welcomes approximately 683 students in grades Pre-K through 8.
As one of the oldest continuously operating schools on the East Coast, St. John’s traces its origins to Father John McElroy, a Jesuit who laid its first cornerstone. Originally located in downtown Frederick’s historic district, the school relocated in 2005 to a modern, 27-acre campus on Opposumtown Pike, which we share with St. Katharine Drexel Parish. This move allowed us to create a cutting-edge learning environment while preserving the traditions that make St. John’s so special.
At St. John Regional Catholic School, we emphasize Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to equip students with critical thinking skills for the future. Through problem-solving and project-based learning, we inspire confidence and curiosity in STEM fields. Our state-of-the-art campus includes a media center, an art room with a kiln, a dedicated music room, and a modern gymnasium—enhancing both academic and extracurricular experiences.
Rooted in the Gospel and Catholic traditions, our mission is to provide a Christ-centered education that fosters academic excellence, leadership, and Christian virtues. Faith is woven into daily life at St. John’s, with students participating in daily prayer, special liturgies, and school Masses. From Pre-K through Grade 8, all students receive religious instruction as part of their daily curriculum.
We deeply value the role of parents as the primary educators of their children. Parental involvement is key to our school’s success, and we encourage families to participate both academically and spiritually. Together, we nurture each student as a unique gift from God, fostering a strong sense of community and shared purpose.
We invite you to explore our website for more information about our academics, extracurricular activities, volunteer opportunities, and athletics. However, the best way to experience the heart of St. John’s is to visit us in person. Come see firsthand the enthusiasm of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the warmth of our school community. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
